 The Marketing Intern serves as a resource for the marketing departments at McKenney’s by supporting all marketing projects, initiatives and disciplines including digital marketing, advertising, communication, administrative support, database management, design, content, event coordination and customer experience.

Mechanical Project Management Spring Co-op

The amount of tasks and responsibilities that are given to co-ops/interns is gradual and typically build on top of one another. I have worked on multiple different issues which include hardware and software. Ranging from retrieving an hdmi cord for someone to scripting automations. Visiting jobsites to assist fieldman is a weekly occurence for earlier interns.

Worked a lot on pricing and estimating jobs. As the terms go on you start getting involved in the project management side of the role and assisting clients and field crews to get the jobs done.

Supported (1-2) Project Managers along with their field team. As you work through your terms, you are given more and more valuable work and responsibility. 30% of time spent on financial analysis/management, 35% of time spent on bookkeeping (co-op is the cheapest labor on the job, so you get stuck with a lot of the file management), 35% on walking the project site, reviewing/troubleshooting installed systems (especially more so once you gain experience/cred with your team), reviewing engineering drawings, etc. The engineering tasks are mostly interesting, fun, meaningful, and build you skills a bunch, but all the file organization and financial paperwork can really be a drag.

I worked on the ISP team handling estimate requests, managing inspections and permits for job sites as well as coordinating material deliveries. 

I designed the HVAC and Plumbing systems for a few large highrises in Atlanta.

They transitioned very well into doing half-online operations. I think they will go back to fully in-person after Covid.

I largely focused on the design of HVAC and plumbing systems in office suites that are being renovated in the Atlanta and Charlotte areas. I also designed the HVAC and plumbing system for a two story training and housing facility for women and children located on Ethel Street in Atlanta. 

It was a bit tedious at times. I had to use Remote Desktop to access my work desktop. The company did not give co-ops laptops except when it was desperately needed. 

Worked a lot with budgeting and estimating future work.

In my department, we ran really small projects (1-2 days all the way to six months). First rotation is mostly building skills necessary to assist project managers (learn how to ratchet CAD, work with engineering drawings, write PO's, etc...). Second and third rotations look more at running projects with assistance and on your own. The first rotation was pretty boring, but it picks up a lot more towards your third rotation. Day-to-day can vary on a weekly basis, either super busy week or really dead. 

As an intern in engineering solutions, I was mainly assigned to create and CAD model HVAC and plumbing designs for the various projects McKenney's was working on. These projects could range in scope from simple remodels for existing office spaces to completely new construction on 100 million dollar high rises in midtown.|I came in with no knowledge of the CAD program the team used, Revit, but had a basic understanding of CAD fundamentals which really helped. Unfortunately, I came in to the company at a very slow time, and there were not many new projects to work on. While the work I was doing was meaningful and engaging, there was very little of it. My boss assured me, however, that the amount of work would increase to a more engaging level in my subsequent rotations.|The company culture was incredibly welcoming and warm, and McKenney's genuinely cares for and supports their employees, including interns and co-ops. I became quick friends with all the full-timers on my team.|Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I had to resign from the co-op program early and served only one rotation at McKenney's.
