My experience

Overview

-Redid production cell- basically the process for how parts flowed from raw sheet metal through cutting, forming, and storing was inefficient so I physically reorganized the part storage flow (this involved some fun welding and design considerations to install new computer between storage racks) and wrote a program that tracked parts/ locations so that the people who stored the parts knew where things should go and the people who pulled the parts could output a list of parts and their locations based on the job they were looking at. -Built a 15ft articulating computer arm so that welders could access the schematics from any location in their work area. This project was fun because it had all the initial solidworks design but then I also got to physically build the thing— went through weld training and everything.

I really enjoyed working for Altec. I did multiple co-op terms so I got to rotate through different roles (manufacturing, quality, design) and I always got to work on projects that were fun and challenging.

Would recommend it to people who...

Enjoy hands on projects

Advice on how to prepare

Grades/ experience is always important to a point, but they’re definitely also looking at who you are as a person and whether they think you’ll mesh with the team
