My experience

Overview

I created code to help the down time between gathering data on broken components of CES (Cummins Emission Systems) and sending out the data in a presentation (the code would take the data and create a PowerPoint). I went on several business trips to work with the customers of our CES (Volvo, Navistar) where I determined failures, their causes, and which company was at fault. The average day to day work however was took inventory and signage (what each bench in the lab did for new workers and visiting customers) for the service lab (relatively mindless and boring but necessary). After the first two months I ran out of stuff to do for most of the month of July and just did online physics homework, despite asking for more work every other day. (Take that for what you will, It wasn't horrible but did get boring towards the end).

Overall I really did enjoy this internship, the location was great for me because I like rural areas, however this is not for everyone. My coworkers were great and really where the reason I'd go back. The business trips where really helpful in developing my customer support skills and seeing of two big companies work together. From what I've heard my internship at Cummins was great compared to many other internships offered at other companies, especially in the automotive industry.
