My experience

Overview

Worked to identify and rectify vulnerability scanners performing duplicate scans based on region. Refreshed external-facing IP ranges based on Men & Mice data and Tenable.io data. Documented the process for both of the above projects for future knowledge and efforts. Analyzed BigFix IVR reports via PowerBI to identify correct vulnerability and fixlet data.

I can't speak for the rest of the I^2 teams, but the two I worked with were highly professional, intelligent, and engaging.

Pros

Everyone is great and works really hard, the teams function well together. Many people were eager to help, teach, and engage.

Cons

The lingo was a little intimidating and difficult to decipher initially, but that just takes time.

How did working remote affect your experience?

It was interesting to see how well a global corporation with multiple parts functioned while remote. They were very smooth and communicative.

Generic security questions. Most were very easy if you have any security experience.

Advice on how to prepare

The best approach and advice I have for anyone getting into security is: nix the ego. Ego does not have any place in security. You will never know everything there is to know about security, no matter how long you're in the field. That's the beautiful part of the industry; it's a perpetual learning experience. As far as what I wish I had known -- I wish I'd known that no one expected me to know everything right off the bat. I wasted a lot of time being very nervous over nothing.
