My experience
Overview
My main project was CAD work and rapid prototype construction for an optical asteroid mining satellite. I also was tasked with sourcing parts we needed machined and optical analysis. Prototyping included 3D printing scale parts, as well as constructing the full size ground demonstration model. Other work involved coding a feedback system for reflectors in an optical alignment train and helping the design of a solar propulsion system.
While small, Transastra has been an amazing time. Because it’s a small company, I’ve gotten first hand experience with coding, gas dynamic problems

When I joined, everyone was online. I was mainly doing CAD so I had a lot of fun.

The interview was very informal with the CEO. He asked about my resume, commenting (in a positive way) on things that weren’t necessarily applicable but showed I was well rounded.
Advice on how to prepare
Show interest in the future of mankind. If you have drive and show eagerness to learn, that will go a long way.
