My experience

Overview

Was integrated into an agile development team and essentially given the responsibilities of an entry-level software engineer. Was given a manager, a mentor, a "buddy" outside of my team who was in an employee resource group relevant to me, and an intern buddy. Did mostly front-end work in TypeScript React on real features that I personally released to production. I was given a lot of independence, but my team all made themselves consistently available to help me out with anything I needed and collaborative work was heavily encouraged. All interns were also split into groups to create a product pitch for the company over the course of the summer. This pitch presentation was expected to cover production details, a marketing strategy, and a cost/revenue analysis, and was presented to senior leadership at the end of the summer. Intern program coordinators made a lot of effort to connect interns with people across the company to make sure we didn't feel isolated; we were given face time with many people in senior leadership and virtual social events were provided so we could all get to know each other.

Was not impressed with the diversity of the product department as a whole but that's a problem in most tech companies, and it's something that the company is clearly actively trying to improve on
