Created a front end user interface to see changes to a part throughout its lifespan.  Dealt with internal supply chain management tool.

Difficult to communicate with team when stuck on problems.  Not because of my team, but because of being remote.

Involved in revamping current process for onboarding suppliers, built tableau dashboard for data visualization

Worked on AI/ML services and IoT. My project was a proof of concept for an AI/ML service my team wanted to provide. I also worked on a second project which was encryption of AI/ML models.

Being remote didn't affect much, other than certain teams not being in the office as often. Instead of working with my team, I sat next to other interns and worked with them in the office, which allowed me to meet many people my age and make friends.

Designed and developed an internal tool that facilitated usage of an AWS service. Took in client input, did some processing and communicated with the AWS API. The idea is someone could automate usage of this AWS service without having to dive too deep into how it works, and would easily be integrated into larger projects.

Created tool for subsidiary (not amazon.com) to fix issue for customers. Would query all customers meeting conditions (5k) and run a job on them. 

Wrote an internal tool for debugging with a backend in Java and a frontend in JavaScript. Saved lots of monthly man-hours.

My main project was to develop an Automation Platform User Interface that would allow my team’s Mechanical Engineers to update fixtures’ testing cycles’ statuses more efficiently. It involved both designing the wireframe and developing it from scratch.

Pros: convenient in terms of minimizing traveling time
Cons: harder to connect and build relationships with coworkers; not being able to see the hardware/robots in the lab

Updating a release management application. This application was essentially a calendar tool that allowed users to view release schedule. I had to add features to this application allowing authorized users to edit the schedule, and view multiple schedules.

Some work days were not as productive since I was essentially working from home. I didn’t get to know the team as well as I would’ve liked to since everything was remote, but I still got plenty of interaction with the team from daily stand ups and weekly hangout meetings.

Proposed a cable management solution to clean up the packaging stations and presented it to the regional IT manager.

Project 1: Creating a graphical annotation tool to label 3D meshes. Project 2: Creating a Docker container that automates image matching benchmark evaluation/comparison.

Made work hours more flexible, however it was harder to limit myself to 8 hour work days

My project (while abiding by the NDA) was effectively to take alert data and generate various personalized metrics based off of it for any users, in addition to creating a dynamic interface to display it en masse.

As of the time of writing I have spent the vast majority of my time in office, so it hasn't affected it much at all. That being said they mailed out an entire setup to me (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, etc) so it was really well done in my opinion.

This was my second internship so I actually got a big project. I made a completely new QA process for the main data pipeline to replace the old one, that automatically and dynamically vetted the outputs for each marketplace as well as logged the information. 

Much less supervision and oversight, but also less instruction and assistance. Coordinating with other employees for things like CRs or meetings was more difficult.

Basically and without violating my NDA, I simply split an existing data pipeline into two segmented pipelines based on a certain customer feature, and measured whether or not this was a helpful way to improve the results compared to the single pipeline. 

I had a internship long project to reduce the number of damaged goods in the ENTIRE building. However throughout the project, they emphasized how they expected me to figure out how to make sure the largest fulfillment center there is has  no damaged products in the building. throughout the 10 weeks I had the worst experience. No one was helpful, there was a terrible culture, and no professionalism. 

I was given a potential project during my first 2 weeks, but it was still being finalized, so I started onboarding for the first week or so. After which, I starting drafting and designing the structure of the project. During the internship, you are given a manager and a mentor, and you are also put on a team who all back your project although the ones who you will report to are your manager and mentor. At the end of the internship, you have a presentation going over the project, the use cases, obstacles encountered, and the current state of the project.

It turned remote halfway through, and I decided to go home. The time zone difference did prove to be an obstacle.

You're given a project at the beginning and you are asked to evaluate, design, and implement it for your internship. People are very helpful but there isn't much guidance on how to do it since this is a problem that even your coworkers haven't solved yet. You're treated like a real engineer from minute 1 and have the exact same perks and responsibilities as your entry-level full-time peers. Very focused on being able to problem-solve independently.

The project they gave me was very easy, and I had a working version within 2 weeks. The hard/frustrating part was getting the code up to the quality standard that Amazon expects, so that it can continue to be worked on in the future. Supposedly my project will be built up in the future to a full-fledged feature, but I haven't seen it yet.
