The Boeing Company is an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes, rotorcraft, rockets, satellites, telecommunications equipment, and missiles worldwide.

I had three main projects. I adjusted a VR simulation for assembly training, created a process simulation for one of the assembly processes, and I helped redesign a fuel console.

I really enjoyed the hybrid work. I went to work Mon-Thur and stayed home Friday.

Rewrote installation plans to include all the information a mechanic would need when installing a group of parts. Talked daily with mechanics.

Worked with agile methodologies, worked with designing the NMA. I worked a lot with other teams and they trusted me to lead a couple of meetings. You had to work creatively to solve any issues that popped up. I helped the stress team with calculations as well. 

If there was a manufacturing defect, my group would be notified, and we would tell the technicians how it needed to be fixed.  I handled some of the smaller ones (i.e. parts barely out of tolerance, quick analysis using an Excel template) while shadowing bigger ones (when we would forward it to the stress analysis team, or check on the repair in-person).  I also did some data analysis on which defects were most common.

I ran multiple FEA analyses on a simplified model of a part, and the results were compared to a more detailed model of the part.  The first week was training with the FEA software they used (meanwhile other interns in my vicinity did CATIA training).  I had a manager but worked much more closely with a mentor.

Researched machine learning applications for Splunk and consulted teams on the ML Toolkit's implementation and use. This was a bit of an unexpected pivot since my initial project was cancelled due to budget cuts (Summer 2019 was a particularly tough time for Boeing). Primarily did research and training on the Splunk platform but my consulting projects moved so slowly (on the client side) that I didn't get to oversee the implementation  before my internship ended.

1. Write VBA Macros to automate data collection and chart generation in Excel. 
2. Conduct a Root Cause Analysis to pinpoint downtime errors on the Flex Track, one of the airplane assembly robots
3. Conduct a market study of available exoskeletons to potentially implement at Boeing

Better than expected since I had a large intern team that was also remote. 

I research airplane lavatory accessibility and provided recommendations. 

No they will not, confirmed by a second internship in person.

Optimization of certain manufacturing lines

Simulating airflow around new designs for hulls

Managed a number of projects focused on process improvement and increasing operational efficiency of commercial airplane production
