Delta Air Lines, Inc., typically referred to as Delta, is one of the major airlines of the United States and a legacy carrier. It is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Automated multiple monthly reports using Alteryx and Power Bi. Created a new data input solution for employees outside of Atlanta.

I wrote automations to move data from a database into emails that were sent out across the teams as well as some simple internal applications to streamline processes.

Definitely got more assignments working in person than remote. There was increasing pressure to work in person as I continued working.

Pulled data from experience server to find areas of improvement. Sent weekly reports to multiple teams and compiled using excel and tableau.

o	Developing a metric to determine worst performing vendors using the past years’ of open POs, about 1 million POs and $50 Million
Calculating Yield remaining on 50+ parts, trends on unserviceable pipe, shortfalls and shortages
Rejections Report to target problem areas in maintenance each week

During my last term, I developed various engineering databases to demonstrate team productivity and progress to agree for a higher headcount in my department. Additionally, I helped write several repairs for planes that where AOS and needed support. I conducted several surveys of aircraft to answer questions unclear in existing documentation 

While it was weird not to see people in the office, being remote didn’t affect communication at all for my department. 

Delta's databases weren't well connected at the time. I was tasked to look into the different databases and consolidate data about employees in the division. I used SQL to get the data and SAS to transform it/put it into an EDW. 

1. Business Case Maturation for Technology projects  relating to the iPads that the pilots use during flights
2. Internal Consulting-process improvement, dependency diagrams, process mapping, automations, etc. 

I was never given a main project. I mostly did ad-hoc tasks with little impact.

Very task based work. Running reports 3x a day, managing customer emails, working with the Vendor Management system, making cargo client profiles manually on the website. 

Completed ERAs and built an internal website.

Worked on a model for pilot training pipeline to help predict training pilot needs. Identified issue in the takeoff procedure process and highlighted possible decreases in delays as a result of fixing said issue.

The sudden shift to virtual work as covid hit fast and hard actually went very smoothly with my team and I was able to continue working on my projects with little blockers.

Fuel efficiency project for domestic flights 

It was okay since I had already had 2 months of in person pre covid

I had two main projects for the semester. The first was working on building a machine learning system that took in past data and then recommended parts we should use to do certain types of aircraft maintenance, based on another part used on the certain maintenance procedure (think like Amazon.... you put one item in your cart, then it recommends other items you might like).

The second project I worked on was a forecasting tool to predict our upcoming usage of certain parts based on past usage of these parts on aircraft checks in the past. This was not based on machine learning but rather just used simple percentages of times as well as mean qty's used, etc.

I also did some adhoc requests and reporting as well as created a new metric to add to our monthly deck.

Harder to do networking and to bounce small ideas off coworkers

Had various tasks in reporting, but was the first rotation of a three-rotation experience. Larger projects included rewriting code to optimize flight schedules, redesigning code to automatically generate reports, and dealing with competitive analysis especially during COVID

My main project was to create a tableau dashboard to aggregate the number of emails the airline received. 

Two part job: first I helped manage and develop technology related projects, and second I did 'internal consulting' for Flight Ops meaning we helped people around the floor with their various ideas if our boss approved it.

Things still worked very well, however personally I would prefer to go back into the office. They may still do a hybrid type deal.

My team was only a few months old, so my manager wanted me to create the monthly progress report set up. Basically, I formatted a LOT of excel sheets and then created a script to automatically upload all of our data into the monthly progress report each month.

I started off the semester in person which was a lot of fun and I enjoyed being in the office. I found it a lot harder to communicate and do my work when I was at home because it was a lot more difficult to ask questions on projects etc. I do not think they will continue being remote post-covid.

Ran simulations to determine the optimal number of resources for airport lobbies.
Analyzed historical data to determine new cost-saving method of retiring airport ground support equipment.

Drafted Engineering Repair paperwork for repair issues on jet engines that fell outside of the OEM provided maintenance manuals. Maintained a log consisting of pictures and descriptions of any unusual wear and tear on customer engines.

Lots of different projects! Some payload forecasting for regional jets, some data analytics for APU usage. Interesting if you like the operations side of the airlines. Requires lots of excel and spreadsheets, so you have to be good at that. 

It was fine remotely, but I already had three semesters of experience in person to help me. It won’t be remote after Covid. 

Spent most of my first rotation in the ATL Int’l Warehouse. Performed time study of the cargo export process, rode along with tug drivers during the midnight shift for a staffing time study, and then worked mostly on ad hoc Excel data manipulation tasks. Built some custom macros with VBA in excel to automate chart creation.

High Throughput Gating - Applied Theory of Constraints and continuous improvement principles to increase aircraft throughput in SEA airport. Most of the work I did involved ad hoc data analyses in Excel to support the project.

Improving visibility to maintenance metrics by creating dashboard for leadership to use in morning meetings. 
Creating automated email reports to send out COVID parked plane numbers and a dashboard to show which parts can be borrowed from parked planes for maintenance. 

It was difficult because it happened so suddenly midway through the semester

My work was anything from ad-his requests to projects. Most of it consisted of pulling some sort of data from our internal databases to answer some question for the analysts.

Main role is to maintain a centralized Tableau dashboard that produces both live data viz as well as a monthly report that goes out to station managers across the globe. Dashboard contained data relating to available maintenance opportunities at different maintenance stations around the world. Also produce ad hoc dashboards from Teradata, DB2, Excel, etc., mainly using Alteryx to alter data. Finally, lots of running queries with Alteryx to send requested data to project managers and management. 

A lot more report building than actual analysis/decision making. 

I did some data cleaning deleting duplicate CIs (Configuration Items, basically data)|Created a dashboard for the server team that connected from ServiceNow's CMDB to Asset table. The dashboard pulled in all servers with a missing asset tag or environment. |Made mapping endpoints|

The IT Internship posting had a general description of what you could do as a developer or business analyst. I was a data analyst so it matched. 

Mainly filed requests that analyzed trends of specific events or aircraft. Had some ""research"" projects that seemed to potentially have effects on the whole company.

I worked on the Airbus structures team. We oversaw the creation of what are called ""work cards,"" packages of instructions to fulfill maintenance requirements issues by the FAA. Most days were assisting people in the writing of these cards. In my second summer, I worked an entire project myself which was very enjoyable. Day to day did get boring at times, but the people I worked with were great and had a lot of industry experience. Flight benefits are also an incredible privilege that all people take great advantage of.

Company culture is fantastic and made work very enjoyable.

Depends on the day. We have to take Ops calls so it depends on if we get those or not. I've worked on a variety of items from wiring diagrams to placards.
