How did working remote affect your experience?
I work with a project team (so I work with two other interns on a specific intern project), and it is definitely a different feeling not being able to talk with them/my team as easily as it would have been in person.

Advice on how to prepare
Sometimes, the job you apply for isn't what you end up working on. I applied as a backend developer intern and am now working on a data science project. Talking to managers about the projects they are planning is going to be a much better indicator of what you might work on.
